The case study included 14,000 Apple Watch users and it was able of detecting that 462 of them had diabetes, based on the Watch's heart rate sensor.

For their next step Ballinger and his study colleague, Johnson Hsieh, are keen to discover what other diseases could be detected through the heart sensors.

As a disclaimer Hsieh has highlighted that those tested were already known to have diabetes or pre-diabetes, and that it if anyone thinks they might have it they should consult a doctor.
